Strategic pianning for ~IIS-A conceptuai framework

چکیده
Increasingly, Management Information Services (MIS) divisions within organizations are becoming more centrally involved in the mainstream of corporate activities. MIS projects are becoming more complex and expensive; are affecting more aspects of the business; and are taking longer to design, develop, and install. For these reasons, effective planning for the MIS function is felt to be of paramount importance. In recognition of this, a conference was held on Planning for MIS in 1974, jointly sponsored by McKinsey & Company, Inc., and the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Attending v:ere MIS executives and practitioners from both the public and private sectors. During the two days of discussions, a number of conclusions were reached which are detailed in this paper. Building upon this conference, and on other work of the authors, the balance of the paper is devoted to presenting a framework for strategic planning for MIS. Definitions of key terms are included, as well as a discussion of some common planning pitfalls. Finally, a list of questions is given, designed to aid the MIS executive in carrying out his own organization's planning effort.

Thelimitation of capital budget forces the managers to look for more wise investment inIT. There are many cost-cutting techniques in the literature and each of them ha...
متن کاملInter-organizational information sharing: The role of supply network configuration and partner goal congruence
This paper presents a theoretical framework to investigate the relationships between the design of a supply network (SN) and inter-organizational information sharing (IIS). We distinguish between four different types of inter-organizational information sharing. These concepts are developed using a two-dimensional classification scheme consisting of varying levels of the volume of information sh...
متن کاملAlgorithmic rationality: Game theory with costly computation
We develop a general game-theoretic framework for reasoning about strategic agents performing possibly costly computation. In this framework, many traditional game-theoretic results (such as the existence of a Nash equilibrium) no longer hold. Nevertheless, we can use the framework to provide psychologically appealing explanations of observed behavior in well-studied games (such as finitely rep...
متن کاملDesigning a Meta Model for Strategic Human Resource Development based on the CIIP Framework by Reviewing Previous Studies
This study tended to provide a comprehensive and systematic model for SHRD based on the CIIP model. To this mean, a targeted review of the definitions, frameworks and models of (SHRD) was carried out. The research method was qualitative meta-synthesis. For data collection, secondary data sources called previous documents were explored. The method of data analysis was a combination of quantitati...
متن کاملThe Role Of Intermediaries In Designing Information Infrastructures In Strategic Niches: The Case Of A Sustainable Mobility Infrastructure Experiment In Berlin
This paper demonstrates the importance of intermediaries in the design of information infrastructures (II) in strategic niches, where urban infrastructures are prototyped to enable transitions to sustainable infrastructure. It shows how existing approaches to the study of such experiments fail to effectively address the design and development of information technology within them. Given the pat...
